Expert advocates use of technology to tackle cybercrimes in Nigeria | The Guardian Nigeria News


An Ilorin-based Information, Communication and Technology expert, Mr Solomon Abolarin has advocated the use of technology to tackle the high rate of cybercrimes and Internet fraud in the country.

Abolarin, who made the call in Ilorin on Saturday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said technological approach would help curb the menace in the country.

According to him, the government must double its efforts and work with ICT experts from across the world to detect internet fraudsters.

“The Federal government must not only rely on security agents to tackle cybercrime in the country.

“There is need to work with team of experts and intelligence to monitor every online activities.

“Cybercrime is increasing every day; even financial institutions and other big companies are experiencing hackers on a daily basis.

“It is time for government to wake up and adopt use of technology to fish out evil doers. It is not all about oral search on mobile phones by security agents.

“If there is need to hire foreign experts to work with Nigeria team of ICT experts to tactically neutralise their activities, it will be good for the safety of the country,” he said.

The CEO, Solotech Global Services, however, added that cybercrime was not restricted to male sex alone but female sex also engage in the act.

He said all eyes were always on male sex when people talked about cybercrime adding that both gender were involved in the evil act.

The expert also called on government to work with network service providers to help reduce the rate of cybercrimes in the country.

“Network service providers like MTN, GLO, Airtel and other telecommunication companies should help proffer solutions to the escalating practice,” he said.
