Nigeria, Ghana business relations could transform continent, legal experts say | The Guardian Nigeria News

Experts at this year’s Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law NBA-SBL conference in Abuja have stated that Nigeria and Ghana are capable of transforming the business environment of the African continent.

The conference with the theme “Recent Developments in the Business Law Environment” was aimed at providing a platform for stakeholders in Nigeria’s business environment to address issues that affect businesses in the country.

Addressing the participants, the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Enterprise Agency, Mrs Kosi Antwiwaa Yankey-Ayeh, said the business relationship between both countries could be strengthened through better business laws and youth empowerment that would improve the African continent.

Yankey-Ayeh challenged relevant stakeholders to innovate and create the entrepreneurship capacity for youths in the continent.

She stressed the need for business operators in Africa to leverage on technology to improve their businesses and environment.

She said: “Business laws help to maintain order, establish a state of generally accepted standards, resolve disputes and protect liberties or rights when it comes to businesses, as well as strengthen relations with customers, government authorities and other businesses.”

Also speaking, the president of the NBA, Olumide Apkata, noted that the 16 yearly conference focuses on the global business environment.

He said the NBA would continue to devise avenues to improve the Nigeria business environment.

Akpata believes that the conference, since its inception in 2004, has remained a converging point for decision-makers in both the public and private sectors, policy formulators, regulators and industry practitioners seeking solutions to the myriad challenges limiting businesses.

“The international business conference of the SBL has set the tune for conversation on various aspects of our national lives,” he stated.

Also NBA President-elect, Mr Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), pledged engagement with the government in promoting the economic fortunes of the country.

Mr Maikyau promised to open more space for young law practitioners.

He stated that his administration would improve on efforts of his predecessor on development and expansion of Nigeria’s business environment.

Maikyau challenged lawyers to hold him accountable to his manifestoes.
