The long-running question of who wears the crown as greatest footballer of all time remains open to debate as the public opinion is split between Portugal legend Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentine World Cup winner Lionel Messi.
Both legends have amassed unparalleled success, individually and collectively.
Messi is an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner and has been decisive for Argentina, winning two Copa America titles and the World Cup.
Ronaldo, meanwhile, has etched his name in history as the Champions League's all-time top scorer (140) goals, the first footballer to reach 900 official goals, and a five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

German football legend and World Cup winner Mesut Ozil is one player whose opinion carries significant weight.
When asked about the GOAT debate, Ozil said via (Sportskeeda).
“It’s a difficult question... but I will choose Messi because he won the World Cup"
While some still believe Ronaldo to be the superior player, there seems to be an acceptance that Messi has created some distance between the two thanks to his World Cup triumph in Qatar.
