Spanish LaLiga club Sevilla have welcomed back their Nigerian forwards, Kelechi Iheanacho and Chidera Ejuke, following a harrowing experience during the international break.

The Europa League giants and LALIGA club took to social media to express their joy and relief at the players' safe return on Wednesday.

Iheanacho and Ejuke, both new players for Sevilla, were part of the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, that found themselves in a distressing situation while on international duty.

The team was held hostage by their hosts in Libya ahead of their fourth-round clash in the Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers for 2025, AFCONQ2025.

According to Pulse Sports reports, the Nigerian team was forced to endure a 20-hour ordeal in an abandoned airport.

This unexpected turn of events occurred after Libyan authorities made a last-minute decision to divert the team's chartered flight to Benghazi.

The two Sevilla forwards finally touched down in Seville on Wednesday, much to the relief of their club and fans. Sevilla promptly shared the good news on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, stating:

"The Super Eagles have landed! Welcome back guys!"

This warm welcome shows the club's concern for their players' wellbeing and their happiness at having them back safely.

While the safe return of Iheanacho and Ejuke is certainly cause for celebration, the incident in Libya have raised questions about the safety and logistics of international football, particularly in regions with potential security concerns.
