If you are planning to study abroad, choosing a country to study in is not an easy task. You have to sieve through billions of web pages to find information that will help you make a decision. There are many things to consider: tuition fees, cost of living, weather conditions, and course of study, among other factors.

Germany may not be the right study destination for everyone, but you want to know some of the positive things to consider if you choose to study in Germany.

1. Get World-Class Quality Education

Whether it’s cars or education, people everywhere recognize “Made in Germany” as a seal of quality. German higher education is one of the best in the world! You can benefit from Germany‘s long and famous university tradition, especially in the fields of engineering and science. A German university degree is highly respected by employers around the world.

Germany has many top universities in the world. There are 44 universities in the QS World University Rankings, which is more than any other country after the United States and the United Kingdom. There are 43 universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings top 500, with 10 in the top 100. If quality education matters to you (as I expect it should), then Germany should be at the top of your list.

2. Pay no tuition fees.

The most important reason for studying in Germany is that most courses at German public universities have no tuition fee. But you will need to pay a semester contribution of up to 250 euros, depending upon the university and the services or benefits included.
In Canada, you have an average tuition cost of $18,000, $22,000 in the US, and $30,000 in England, whereas in Germany, you get an overall average of $650. How is that for a bargain?

3. Get More Funding Options

Although students don’t pay tuition fees and receive a ton of benefits, the cost of living in Germany can still be considerable. Various means of funding are available to students to cope with living expenses. DAAD scholarships and part-time jobs are known as “HiWi” for research assistants or “Workstudent” for part-time jobs in a company. Studying alone can take significant mental effort; part-time job opportunities also exist in restaurants, supermarkets, etc. for those who don’t want brain-intensive jobs. As an international student, you are permitted to work for 120 full days or 240 half days in a year.

4. Get taught in English

Good news for those who don’t know any German or if your German isn’t good enough yet. Many courses and degree programs are offered in English, especially at the master’s degree level. According to the DAAD website, there are over 1,470 courses that are completely taught in English.

After completing your degree in Germany, you can stay in the country for up to 18 months to look for a job related to your qualifications. Germany provides excellent job and Ph.D. opportunities. Germany has one of the lowest unemployment rates for graduates in the EU. According to a study, Germany is likely to face a shortage of 3 million skilled workers by 2030; this means more job opportunities after studying in Germany.

Besides studying, living in the center of Europe provides you with an opportunity to travel across the continent. What’s more, the German student visa would allow you to travel to 26 countries without restrictions. You can reach a number of destinations within a couple of hours by train or plane. Choosing to study in Germany may just be one of the decisions you’ll be glad to make. But keep in mind that it’s not all hearts and smiles. Schoolwork and getting through exams can be tough in Germany. And Germans are not exactly among the most polite people you can find. They are known to be blunt and reserved. Yet they can be friendly when you strike the right code.
