The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has announced a date for the local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

Professor George Chima, the chairman of ABSIEC said the LG elections in the state will be conducted on November 2, 2024.

Chima disclosed this during a meeting with some political stakeholders in Abia on Saturday in Umuahia.

He noted that the chairmanship and councillorship elections will take place across the 184 wards in the state.

The chairman also assured political stakeholders of the state of the commission’s commitment to delivering a free and fair election process.

He noted that the primaries for the political parties will be held between September 25 and October 4, while the submission of the list of candidates will be held from October 5 to October 7.

Parties and their candidates are expected to begin their campaigns between October 18 and 31.

“Our assurance to you is that the elections into our various local government councils in 2024 will no longer be business as usual.

“The commission is determined to make the elections free, fair and credible, and also ensure that the elections will be seen as such,” Chima said.
