Aiyedatiwa Warns Monarchs Against Installing Minor Chiefs

The Ondo State governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has asked traditional rulers in the state to desist from going beyond their territories, especially disputed areas, to install or appoint minor chiefs.

Governor Aiyedatiwa warned that his government would not condone any form of hegemony or expansionist tendency that could lead to a crisis anywhere in the state.

The governor gave the warning while presenting the instrument of appointment and staff of office to Oba Adebayo Bashiru Takuro, the first Olusan of Ayesan in Odigbo Local Government Area.

The installation of Oba Takuro followed the approval and recognition of the Olusan of Ayesan kingship stool by the state government.

Aiyedatiwa admonished Oba Takuro to use his powers in the service of the people of his community.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, reminded the new monarch that his elevation was a divine call to deepen his service to his people.

“You must continue to exercise restraints and caution in the use of the traditional authority and powers. This instrument, which you are being presented today, should be deployed to strengthen the peace and cohesion of your domain and that of the state in general,” Aiyedatiwa said.

Oba Takuro thanked the Aiyedatiwa administration for ensuring his accession to the throne and assuring the government of his commitment to sustaining peace.

The traditional ruler promised to engender programmes that would promote the culture of the people of the community.

The state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, urged the people to fully cooperate with the government in maintaining law and order.

Takuro said the state government was committed to bringing development to the grassroots.
