Following Bendel Insurance’s unexpected 1-0 home loss to Abia Warriors, the Edo State Government has called on the team to regroup and refocus on their upcoming match against Sunshine Stars in Ijebu-Ode.
The defeat marked the Benin Arsenals’ first of the season, and as they prepare for Sunday’s matchday 10 fixture at the Otunba Dipo Dina Stadium, the state is rallying behind them to rebound.
Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Yusuf Alli, addressed the team during Thursday’s training session, emphasizing that victory over Sunshine Stars is paramount.
“I am here to encourage you to put the thoughts of the home defeat behind you and focus entirely on the next match,” Alli told the players. “Go to Ijebu-Ode and secure a win to recover from last weekend’s setback.”
Alli acknowledged growing concerns among fans and stakeholders about the team’s recent performance and league standings but remained optimistic. “We’ve done everything required to support your success, and we believe our efforts will soon translate into better results. Don’t feel disheartened—keep working hard and avoid distractions.”
Encouraging the players to eliminate small errors that have hampered their progress, Alli expressed confidence in their abilities, saying, “You have the talent; it’s just minor mistakes that are holding us back, and those can be corrected.”
With the backing of the state and their supporters, Bendel Insurance will aim to restore their winning form this weekend.
