Bobrisky: FG Orders Probe Of Corruption At NCoS

The Federal Government has launched an investigation into allegations of bribery and corruption within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, gave the directive in response to a video shared by activist and social critic, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In the video, crossdresser Idris ‘Bobrisky’ Okuneye, supposedly claimed that he bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with N15m to drop charges of money laundering against him.

Bobrisky, who was supposedly released from prison on August 5 after his six-month sentence for naira note abuse, was heard in the video telling a friend that he spent the six months hiding in an apartment near the correctional facility.

“On my way to prison, my godfather called and assured me I wouldn’t enter prison. He told me not to worry and said he would arrange an apartment near the prison and speak to the Comptroller General of Prisons in Abuja,” Bobrisky was supposedly heard saying.

Both Bobrisky and VeryDarkMan were subsequently invited by the EFCC for questioning over the claims.

Reacting in a statement by his spokesman, Babatunde Alao, Tunji-Ojo said: “The Ministry (of Interior) will not tolerate any compromise on its core values of integrity, transparency, and accountability. We will leave no stone unturned in rooting out corruption and ensuring that those found culpable face the full wrath of the law.”

The minister appointed a committee, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, to investigate the matter.

“The Minister reassures the public that the investigation will be rigorous, transparent, and impartial, and that appropriate disciplinary actions will be taken against any personnel found guilty,” the statement added.

Other members of the committee are Dr. Uju Agomuoh of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation And Welfare Action (PRAWA) who will serve as the Secretary; Mrs Eva Omatese, Director of Legal Ministry of Interior; Mr. Usman Nasiru, Director of Joint Services Ministry of Interior, Dr. Ikechukwu Ezeugo (Consultant lyke) of The Brekete Family Show.
