BOWFT24: Heartland Queens Secure Perfect Record in Group Stage

Heartland Queens delivered an impeccable performance in the group stages of the 2024 Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT), winning all their matches without conceding a single goal.

The Owerri-based team triumphed in their final group game on Thursday morning, defeating Aigle Royal d’Adjara from Benin Republic with a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to a second-half goal by their prolific striker, Emmanuella James.

Having previously beaten Fortress Ladies and Delta Babes, Heartland Queens ended the group stage with six goals from three matches.

Emmanuella James contributed three of these goals, showcasing her scoring prowess. With a perfect nine points from three games, Heartland Queens advanced as group leaders.

Next, the Owerri side will face Espoir FC of Benin Republic in the quarterfinals on Saturday, October 12, at Western Boys High School in Benin City, continuing their campaign in the tournament’s fourth edition.

Heartland Queens are among the foundation teams of the prestigious yearly preseason competition and look to further their impressive form in the knockout stages.
