The Federal Executive Council (FEC) at a meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu has scrapped the Ministries of Niger Delta Development and Sports Development.

Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s special adviser on information and strategy, announced this on Wednesday.

According to Onanuga, “There will now be a ministry of regional development to oversee all the regional development commissions, such as Niger Delta Development Commission, North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, North East Development Commission.

“The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports.”

“The FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy.”

The Ministry of Sports Development was being overseen by John Owan Enoh, the former Senator representing the Cross River Central Senatorial District, while Engr. Abubakar E. Momoh was in charge of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development.

One between the Minister of Tourism, Mrs. Lola Ade-John, and the Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, may have to step down as a result of the merge of both ministries.
