AFRICA | A brilliant Lady who failed medical exam four times finally passed, becomes a Registered Nurse in the US.

A brilliant American lady named Amiyah Allen who failed her medical exam four times, has finally succeeded on her fifth attempt, earning her license to practice as a nurse in the United States.

Amiyah passed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) a year after graduating from nursing school in May 2023. Without passing the NCLEX, she had been unable to practice nursing.

The NCLEX is a nationwide exam required for the licensing of nurses in the United States, Canada, and Australia.

Amiyah stated that her journey was far from easy. After four unsuccessful attempts, she finally passed the exam in July 2024.

She shared that her academic journey was filled with moments of defeat, self-doubt, and discouragement, but she is grateful for every part of it. Reflecting on her success, she said, ”My license wasn’t given to me, it was definitely earned, which made me appreciate this accomplishment even more”.

During her journey, Amiyah said she met many other nurses who struggled with the NCLEX, just like she did. She stated that their shared experiences taught her not to feel embarrassed or prideful, but to live her truth, which helped her persevere.

Advising those facing similar challenges, Amiyah encourages them to never give up adding that just because it is delayed does not mean it is a denial.

She expressed deep gratitude to everyone who supported her throughout her journey, including those who prayed for her and encouraged her to keep going.

Amiyah mentioned that she has been accepted into the Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, United States Nursing Program to pursue her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
