Church group criticizes Pastor Abel Damina

Pastor Abel Damina, the senior pastor at Power City International Church in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, has been criticized by the Nigerian Supreme Council for Ecclesiastical Affairs, which accuses him of spreading “fallacies and heresies” through his sermons.

The council claims that Damina’s messages frequently contain “theological errors” and “hate speech,” which they argue could even be considered cybercrimes against the Christian faith.

On October 15, Bishop Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, the council’s secretary, issued a public letter on Facebook on behalf of the elders, addressing Pastor Damina directly.

According to Premium Times, the letter disclaims what the council refers to as “heretical” messages in his teachings.

“Dr. Abel Damina, you have crossed the line, and you are, therefore, no longer a representative of Christianity (The Body of Christ) in Nigeria,” Adesanya-Davies stated, explaining that heresy contradicts orthodox Christian doctrine and undermines the gospel.

The council highlighted specific teachings by Damina, such as “There is no heaven,” “You don’t need God to succeed,” “Jesus is not coming back,” and “Heaven is a scam.”

They accused him of using controversial content to attract followers rather than focusing on correct spiritual guidance.

In response, Damina dismissed the council in a live Facebook video, calling them a “bunch of jokers” trying to gain relevance.

He claimed he had never heard of the group, nor had he received their letter.

“I am not even aware of its existence. It is a situation of notice me by force,” he remarked, adding, “They are looking at how to malign me. They said I am heretic; therefore, they have decided that I am no longer a representative of the Body of Christ in Nigeria. What a laugh.”
