Cleric calls for youth development

The Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Dr. Sam Adeyemi, has urged the Federal Government to prioritise youth development and establish a clear, inclusive vision for Nigeria’s future.

In a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos, following the country’s 64th Independence Day celebrations, Adeyemi emphasised the importance of investing in young people, noting that over 60 per cent of Nigeria’s population is made up of youth.

“You cannot discuss the development of this country without discussing the youth. Their education, skills, and capacity must be prioritised,” he stated.

Adeyemi also called on leaders to adopt a forward-thinking approach to their policies, saying, “The vision for Nigeria’s future must be clear, compelling, and inclusive. Leadership should inspire the nation to rally around a shared vision for development and transformation.”

He further emphasised that youth empowerment is essential for economic growth, fostering innovation, and entrepreneurship, which are critical drivers of a vibrant economy.

While acknowledging Nigeria’s progress since independence in 1960, Adeyemi noted that more must be done to harness the potential of young Nigerians.

Addressing the country’s social and economic divides, he underscored national unity as a cornerstone for continued growth.

“Since gaining independence, we’ve battled tribalism, religious divisions, and inequality. True progress can only come through unity. We must reject hatred, discrimination, and all forms of division,” he urged.

Despite the current challenges, Adeyemi encouraged Nigerians to remain hopeful and committed to national transformation.

“As we commemorate our independence, we must remember that transformation takes time. We cannot afford to give up. Nigeria’s potential is immense, and with collaboration and dedication, we can achieve great things,” he added.

President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettimma, alongside other dignitaries, on Tuesday, observed the Independence Day Parade held at the forecourt of the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

Many governors, in their respective states, also held Independence Day parades.

Others made statewide broadcasts to the people, urging peace, unity, tolerance and patriotism to build a better country.
