The system upgrade of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) Limited, the banking subsidiary of Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) Plc, seems to be catching the fancy of customers.

This is because of the general belief that the process will lead to enhanced service delivery, as the lender is known to be a trailblazer in the banking sector in Nigeria.

GTBank plans to move its banking platform to the Finance Core Banking Application Systems, software banks use to manage critical processes, such as customer accounts, transactions and risk management.

As a result of the upgrade, customers of the financial institution may experience service disruption on its digital channels during the weekend.

To prepare for this, GTBank sent a notice to customers, noting that it will close earlier than expected today by noon and reopen for business next Monday.

“We would like to inform you that all our branches nationwide will close to customers early on Friday, October 11, 2024, as we begin the transition to a new and robust suite of Finance Core Banking Application Systems,” a part of the message said.

“Please note that there will be no service on our digital channels for 11 hours from 10 pm on Sunday, October 13 till 9 am on Monday, October 14, 2024, as part of the transition process,” another part of the statement said.

Though this upgrade will disrupt financial transactions during the upgrade period, some customers have expressed confidence in GTBank, saying it was in their best interest.

“I believe in GTBank a lot because when it comes to the use of technology, they are top-notch. This is evident in the upgrade they did last year in their mobile app.

“You will agree with me that the upgraded app is better than the first one they developed. So, I believe that the latest banking platform upgrade they want to carry out this weekend will lead to better service delivery, that is why I am banking with them,” a customer of the bank, who identified herself as Shakirat Adediran, told Business Post.
