Defence Minister Sympathises With Jigawa Govt, Victims Over Fuel Explosion

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar has extended his condolences to the Jigawa State government following the tragic fuel tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura Local Government Area (LGA).

The incident, which occurred Tuesday night, claimed the lives of more than 105 people, leaving over 55 others injured.

The Minister expressed his sadness and sympathised with the families of the victims.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic fuel tanker explosion that claimed precious lives and left many injured. My heart goes out to the people of Jigawa State during this difficult time.

“I pray that the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may Almighty God grant their families the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. May the injured recover quickly and fully,” the Minister said.

THE WHISTLER reports that no fewer than 105 had died following a tanker that lost control near Majia Town, close to Khadija University.

The state police command confirmed that dozens of residents rushed to the scene to scoop petrol from the overturned tanker before it exploded, resulting in a fuel inferno.

In response, the Vice President, Kashim Shettima directed the immediate deployment of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) personnel and resources to the state.

“As we contend with this tragedy, let us also reflect on the importance of safety measures and public awareness to prevent such incidents in the future.

“Every life is precious, and we must do all we can to protect our citizens,” he said.
