Dele-Bashiru Scores As Super Eagles Defeat Libya In Uyo

Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scored the winning goal in the 87th minute to give Nigeria a 1-0 win over Libya in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Godswil Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Eguavoen handed Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface the slot to replace Victor Osimhen. He was supported on the flanks by Moses Simon, and Ademola Lookman.

Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, and Frank Onyeka were tasked with providing the ammunition for the attackers.

Alex Iwobi was presented with a good chance in the 11th minute but the Libya goalkeeper produced a nice save to deny the Fulham midfielder.

The Super Eagles continue to dominate the game in the opening half with the likes of Ademola Lookman, and William Troost-Ekong missing good chances to put the hosts ahead.

The first half ended goalless as both sides failed to find the rub of green.

Nigeria continued from where they stopped in the first half with Iwobi heading wide from a pinpoint cross in the box.

Samuel Chukwueze replaced Frank Onyeka, while Taiwo Awoniyi came off the bench to replace the ineffective Victor Boniface, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru took the place of Alex Iwobi.

Lazio’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru finished off a nice cross from Moses Simon to score the winning goal in the 87th to hand Nigeria the maximum points going into the second leg on Tuesday.

The win was enough to put the Super Eagles in the first position in Group D with seven points, one ahead of Benin Republic in second place, who have six points.

In the other Group D match, Benin Republic Republic defeated Rwanda 3-0.

The Super Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday for the second leg against Libya at the Martyrs of February Stadium.
