Driver Killed As Ambulance Crashes Into Truck In Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified ambulance driver lost his life last night after his vehicle collided with a truck in the Gbagada area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that the accident occurred after the truck, while in motion, was struck from the side, causing the driver to lose control and swerve into another lane. The approaching ambulance, moving at high speed, then crashed into the truck.

The incident took place at TREM, near Charlie Boy Bus Stop, heading towards Gbagada.

Confirming the incident, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency received a distress call at 1:47 a.m. on Sunday.

Oke-Osanyintolu explained that the ambulance driver was trapped inside the vehicle due to the impact of the collision, leading to his death.

“Upon arrival of the Eagle response team at the incident scene by 0202hrs, LRT discovered an accident involving an ambulance vehicle, registration number JBD-405HA and an articulated truck, registration number unknown,” he said.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the articulated truck was hit on the side while on motion, which led to loss of control by the truck driver and his swerve into another lane.

“The sudden lane change however, reportedly resulted in a road crash when the approaching ambulance rammed under the truck on top speed, resulting in death of the ambulance driver.”

The deceased’s body was extricated from the vehicle and handed over to members of the Ambulance Association for transport to the morgue.

Oke-Osanyintolu added that the scene of the incident, along with the truck, was handed over to officials of the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
