Education remains the bridge to future – Anambra Governor

In a celebration of World Teachers’ Day, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State reaffirmed his enduring commitment to education, stating, “Education remains the bridge to the future.”

The event took place at the Teachers’ House in Awka, the state capital, where the Governor lauded teachers for their fundamental role in shaping the nation’s future.

Addressing attendees, Governor Soludo recognized the dedication of educators, particularly in the face of challenges.

He noted their resilience in adapting to new teaching methods and continuing to provide education with minimal support before his administration took office.

“It is our responsibility to value, respect, and celebrate the contributions of our educators. Their guidance and mentorship of our youth are invaluable, and we owe them our gratitude for their selfless service,” stated the Governor.

Highlighting Anambra’s educational achievements, he shared, “In terms of learning outcomes, Anambra continues to lead the way. Public school enrollment has increased by 18 percent, and we proudly have one of the lowest rates of out-of-school children in Nigeria. We will continue to excel.”

Soludo emphasized the unique relationship between education and teaching, saying, “Education is the bridge to the future. While education is the key, teachers hold the padlock.”

He encouraged educators to be role models, reminding them that students learn more from actions than words: “The children entrusted to your care are always watching. The impressions you leave will last a lifetime.”

Reflecting on his own educational journey, the Governor recalled the lasting impact teachers had on his life.

He urged educators to remain optimistic, stating, “Even amidst critiques of the nation, do your part and maintain faith in our collective potential.”

Earlier, Comrade Chika Chukwudozie, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, expressed optimism about teachers’ role in society, commending the Governor for his accomplishments across various sectors including education, health, and agriculture, and voicing full support from the teaching community.

The event also featured the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, as well as members from the Anambra State Universal Education Board, the Post Primary School Service Commission, and various lawmakers, all of whom celebrated the significant contributions of teachers.

Moreover, Governor Soludo took the opportunity to engage directly with teachers, addressing their daily challenges and reaffirming the state’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for their professional growth.

The day concluded with a poignant message from Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the Governor’s wife, who reflected on the profound influence of her own parents—both educators.

“Teachers are the real heroes of our time. Their sacrifices shape a better world,” she stated on social media.

“As stakeholders, we must ensure a safe and thriving environment for every teacher to flourish. We owe them our respect and appreciation.”

The participation of Governor Soludo and his wife underscores their commitment to the education sector and highlights the vital role teachers play in the community.

World Teachers’ Day, celebrated annually on October 5th, serves as a global reminder of the importance of investing in education and honouring those who dedicate their lives to this noble profession.
