The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has initiated an investigation into bribery allegations made by controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, against some EFCC officers.

Bobrisky, a former convict, claimed in a video shared by blogger Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, that unnamed EFCC officers had extorted ₦15 million from him in exchange for dropping money laundering charges.

In a statement released on Tuesday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that the commission’s chairman has set up a team of investigators to probe the allegations.

“As a result, both Okuneye and Otse (VeryDarkMan) are invited to report to the EFCC’s Lagos Directorate to assist in the investigation,” Oyewale stated.

The EFCC assured the public of a thorough investigation, with the findings to be made public in due course.

In April, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine for violating laws on the abuse of Nigeria’s currency, the naira.
