An electric vehicle expert and Chief Executive Officer of SAGLEV Electro Mobility Company, Gbenga Faleye, has said that electric vehicles are a central pillar of green innovation.

This was stated in a statement made available to Sunday PUNCH.

In a lecture delivered at the annual public lecture of the Nigeria Britain Association, titled: Green Innovation and Digital Transformation, Faleye noted the importance of limiting global warming and greenhouse gas emissions in line with the Paris Agreement of 2015.

He added that transitioning to electric vehicles had positive environmental impact, including reduced urban air pollution, less dependence on fossil fuels and enhanced energy efficiency.

He said, “Nigerian urban areas especially Lagos should strive to optimise the enormous benefits of electric mobility to solve part of the transport challenges.”

Faleye made a case for an improvement in government policies and programmes supporting e-mobility.

He concluded that Nigeria held the ace for and was in position to lead EV adoption in Africa.
