It appeared that Alex Iwobi would haunt his former club when he netted the opening goal in the 60th minute after a strong run by Emile Smith Rowe, but the Cottagers couldn’t maintain their lead.

Marco Silva’s team started strong, creating several chances, including a shot from Adama Traore that was saved by Jordan Pickford, followed by Smith Rowe missing from close range.

Everton struggled for much of the match but almost took the lead when midfielder Idrissa Gueye, playing in his 200th Premier League match, struck the crossbar. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s follow-up goal was ruled offside.

Despite being disjointed for large stretches, the Blues persisted and Beto chose the perfect moment to celebrate his first league goal of the season.
