Former Plateau United defender Ibrahim Buhari put up a strong performance at the back for Swedish side Elfsborg in their shock 1-0 win over Italian league giants AS Roma in the Europa League, OwnGoalNigeria.com reports.

Buhari was at the heart of the back four of the Swedish side and played a huge role in frustrating them from levelling scores , and in the process helped his team to a clean sheet.

The defeat was also the first Roma have suffered under new coach Ivan Juric since he was appointed as the replacement for Danielle De Rossi around three weeks ago. For Elfsborg it’s their first win of the tournament after losing 3-2 to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in their first game.

22 year old Buhari have been ever present for Elfsborg this season in the tournament playing in the entire duration of their five games so far, which includes three in the qualifiers.

Rated the highest among defenders for his team yesterday, he has been experiencing a steady rise since his move to Sweden to two seasons ago. Last season he made a total of 12 appearances. Four less than his total of 16 in his debut season.
