Flamingos star striker Harmony Chidi to emulate Victor Osimhen at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

Nigeria's under-17 women's national team known as the Flamingos are set to make their debut at the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

Ahead of the tournament in the Dominican Republic, star player Harmony Chidi has stated she intends to hit the ground running.

In an interview with FIFA, Chidi talks about her side's attacking mentality and idolizing Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen.

The Flamingos begin their title hopes against New Zealand and are expected to return home with the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup title.

The Flamingos earned their first medal at 2022 edition in India, and the responsibility of the Flamingos to do well falls on Chidi.

Asked on their title hopes, she said, "Well, I believe my God. I believe the technical crew. I believe in my coach, Bankole Olowookere.

"I believe that we are going to reach the finals, and we are going to bring the medal back.

"The gold medal! Because we have already worked hard for this; we have made sacrifices for it. So we are going to just leave it for God to do the remaining."

Chidi then branded Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen who was the top scorer at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

"My idols in male football are Erling Haaland and [Victor] Osimhen.

"I love these two people so much because of the way they score, the way they deliver, their determination.

"Even when others are not doing well, they will find a way to make it count."

Chidi scored 12 goals in qualifying—including two hat-tricks and at least one goal in every game to help Nigeria reach the finals and become the top scorer in all six confederations.
