Fire incident

At least four individuals were burnt beyond recognition on Sunday when a fire engulfed a lounge and bar in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred at Baale Road in Olodi Apapa.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that a distress call was received at the Tolu Division around 7:45 a.m. Following this report, police and firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene.

Hundeyin said that, through the combined efforts of the teams, the fire, which affected the entire building, was successfully extinguished. However, four staff members of the establishment were found to have been burnt beyond recognition.

“On 13/10/24 at about 07:50 hours, a distress call was received at Tolu Division that at about 07:45 hours of same day, fire gutted a lounge and bar, located at Baale Road, Olodi Apapa.

“Based on the report, teams of policemen and firefighters were swiftly mobilized to the scene and the fire, which affected the whole building, was successfully put out as a result of the effort of all the teams. However, 4 of the company’s staff, who are yet to be identified, got burnt beyond recognition in the fire,” he said.

The police spokesperson stated that the bodies have been transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Morgue in Yaba for autopsy. The cause of the fire and the extent of the property damage are yet to be ascertained.

“The corpses have been evacuated to Infectious Disease Hospital, IDH Morgue, Yaba for autopsy. Cause of fire and value of the property destroyed are yet unknown. Meanwhile, investigation is in progress,” Hundeyin added.
