Frustration as National Grid Collapses Second Time in 12 Hours

The national grid collapsed again on Tuesday, barely 12 hours after it was fixed, Business Post can independently verify.

The incident raises serious concerns about the stability of the nation’s electricity supply after power was disrupted across the whole country late on Monday affecting millions of households and businesses.

The grid collapsed at about 6:18 pm on Monday.

The back-to-back collapse has sparked frustration among citizens and highlighted the fragility of the national power infrastructure.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) confirmed the system collapse which resulted in loss of power.

“Dear Valued Customer, Kindly be informed there was a system collapse at 09:17 hrs which has resulted to a loss of power supply across our network.”

It is not immediately clear what has been responsible but analysts told Business Post that as more customers become onboarded to Band A, which comes with at least 20 hours of electricity daily, the infrastructure may not withstand the pressure.

Over the last week, customers of Ikeja Electric had issues for over three days getting electricity tokens as not all channels were available.

Also, across other distribution companies, customers have also complained of less power than promised.
