Godwin bags 100m gold at ISF Gymnasiade Bahrain 2024

 Nigeria’s Tejiri Godwin Bahrain clinched the gold in the boys 100m of the ISF Gymnasiade 2024 at the Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa, crossing the finish line at an impressive 10.38 seconds (PB).

Known for his explosive speed, Godwin trains under the guidance of Coach Richard T in Bayelsa. Earlier in the year, the high schooler made waves at the MTN Champs finals in Calabar, where he set a then personal best of 10.61s, signalling his rise as one of the promising talents in Nigerian athletics. His recent victory only strengthens his position as one to watch, showcasing his growth and commitment to excellence.

The ISF Gymnasiade Bahrain 2024, which started in October and will be rounded off on October 31, is the biggest ever international school sport event.

The event, which features more than 5,400 participants representing over 70 countries worldwide, got underway on October 24 with the official opening ceremony, followed by plenty of actions in the gymnasium’s 26 sports.

Gymnasiade’s programme are archery, athletics, badminton, 3×3 basketball, beach volleyball, boxing, chess, dance sport, fencing, aerobic gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, orienteering, padel, para athletics, para badminton, para judo, para swimming, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and wrestling.

A cultural day was held on Sunday, with the participating delegations sharing various aspects of their nation’s cultures.

This year’s Gymnasiade is the 19th edition of the event first held in 1974, hosted by West Germany, with 13 nations taking part and just two sports on the programme. It has grown over the years, and its last edition in 2022, which was held in Normandy, France, featured 69 countries competing in 20 sports.
