Gombe empowers 573,429 farmers with fertilisers, others

The Gombe State Government through the Nigeria Community Action for Recovery and Economic Stimulus and Gombe State Action for Recovery and Economic Stimulus has empowered 573,429 farmers and under-privileged with farm inputs.

The beneficiaries were empowered with fertilisers, herbicides, seedlings, and among others during the fourth phase of the initiative

Speaking during the distribution of farm inputs at Amada, Akko Local Government Area of the state on Monday, Gombe Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Salihu Alkali, said 152,429 would benefit directly and 421,000 others indirectly.

He said, “Under this fourth phase implementation of GO-CARES, a total of 573,429 people would benefit directly and indirectly from the various programmes under the 3 Result Areas. Of this number, a total number of 152,429 people will directly benefit from this phase, while 421,000 will benefit indirectly through the implementation of basic services and rural infrastructural projects in their respective communities.”

Alkali further urged the beneficiaries to put the items to use to alleviate their sufferings saying, “It was the belief of His Excellency, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya (Dan Majen Gombe) that this support, if properly utilised by the beneficiaries will grossly alleviate poverty, boast nano, micro and small enterprises, enhance it penetration and add value in the overall economic development of our dear state.”

The commissioner disclosed that the fourth phase of implementation would see beneficiaries who are carefully selected and mined from the social register benefitting from cash transfer grants.

Others include livelihood grants; labour-intensive public workfare, basic services; provision of agricultural inputs and assets; provision of operational grants to nano, micro, and small businesses, and IT enhancement grants to ICT-related enterprises across the state.

“Additionally, several communities across the state would benefit from community projects like blocks of classrooms, health care facilities, WASH facilities under basic services, and construction or rehabilitation of earth dams, culverts, and drainages under the rural infrastructure component of the programme. All the aforementioned activities are projects and programmes that
has a direct impact on the poor and the vulnerable,” Alkali added.
