The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has announced that the State Government will pay a new minimum wage of N80,000 for all state government employees.

The announcement was contained in a press release signed by the Commissioner for Information, Ini Ememobong on Wednesday.

He said the implementation committee has been given a month to work on report on how to Increase wages and execute it properly.

He said: “To ensure a smooth rollout of this policy, the governor has also constituted an implementation committee, which has been given one month to deliver its report on how the wage increase will be executed.”

The committee, chaired by the Head of the Civil Service, includes the following as members:

Chairman, State Civil Service Commission

Chairman, Local Government Service Commission

Permanent Secretaries from the Ministries of Finance, Labour and Manpower Planning, Justice, and Local Government Service Commission, among others.

Directors of Budget and key representatives from Nigeria Labour Congress (Akwa Ibom chapter), Trade Union Congress (Akwa Ibom chapter), and the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE)

He described the move as a reflection of the state’s government dedication to prioritising the well-being of its employees.
