Gov Otti Committee Inspects Progress At Ofeme Federal College

A high-level committee appointed by Governor Alex Otti conducted a site inspection at the proposed Federal College of Education in Ofeme, Umuahia North Local Government Area, at weekend.

The committee is headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Kenneth Kalu, and includes Elder Chinedu Ubochi, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education; Prof. Uche Eme Uche, Commissioner for Tertiary Education; and Sir Kenechukwu Nwosu, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education.

The committee is tasked with overseeing the establishment of the new educational institution.

Ubochi, speaking to reporters after the inspection, said the visit was to assess the progress at the proposed permanent site of the Federal College of Education Ofeme, located at Ude Ofeme.

Their goal, according to him, was to ensure a smooth and timely launch of the institution.

To facilitate speedy commencement, temporary measures have been put in place.

Students and staff of Ofeme Secondary Technical School will relocate to Umuezeama Community Primary School, Ofeme, for the new academic year.

The arrangement will be in place until the completion of the project at Ofeme Central School, Umunkpu Ofeme.

Mr. Nwachukwu-Nwokeafor, speaking on behalf of the Eze-in-Council of Ofeme Autonomous Community, expressed gratitude to Governor Otti for his commitment to education in Abia State.

He described the progress at the permanent site as “encouraging” and urged the committee and contractors to expedite the project’s completion.
