House of Reps Orders Investigation into ‘One Chance’ Taxi Operations in Abuja Following Legislative Aide’s Murder

The House of Representatives has launched an investigation into the rise of ‘one chance’ taxi crimes in Abuja after the brutal murder of Miss Nimah Sulaiman, a legislative aide, last week.

Sulaiman was reportedly killed by criminals operating an unregistered taxi near Bannex Junction, Wuse District, as she made her way home.

Representative Ismail Dabo, who raised the motion of urgent public importance, lamented the loss of his aide and condemned the increase in ‘one chance’ attacks—where passengers are robbed, kidnapped, or assaulted by criminals posing as taxi drivers. The House observed a minute of silence in honor of the deceased.

Following this incident, the House has mandated its Committees on the FCT, Police, National Security, and Intelligence to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the criminal activities of these unregistered taxi operators. The committees are expected to submit their findings within three weeks.

In addition, the House called on security agencies to ramp up efforts to curb these operations and arrest those responsible for such crimes.

The rise of ‘one chance’ robberies has been a growing concern in Abuja, threatening the safety of residents and commuters alike.
