When Raji Yakub, popularly known as London Tailor, told his family members that he wanted to study Clothing and Textiles, his decision did not go well with the family who wanted him to become a lawyer or doctor.

He added that the family summoned a meeting to persuade him to change his mind, but he stood his ground.

He recalled, “When I finally went to school, I studied Clothing and Textiles, making me a certified tailor. It wasn’t easy taking that decision. Everyone at home kept comparing me with the ones who were studying to be doctors and lawyers.”

The fashion designer has gone on to work with celebrities such as Small Doctor, Qdot, OBerz, DJ Consequence, K1 De Ultimate, Saheed Osupa, and Groovy. He has launched collections such as ‘Machalla’, ‘Play Boy’, ‘30Bg Collection’ and ‘Selecta Collection’.

Speaking on the idea behind the Machala collection, he said, “My first collection was Machala because I am a diehard fan of Wizkid, who is sometimes called Machala. Initially, I didn’t have a name for the collection but when people bought them, they told me that it was the kind of stuff Wizkid loves to wear, so I chose that name.”
