In an address to his congregation, captured in a video, Adeboye described his earlier claim as a “mistake.” He emphasized that the Bible does not support this view.

Adeboye cited Hebrews 12:14, stating, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God.” He clarified that peaceful and holy living, not tithing, are the prerequisites for entering heaven.

“I apologize for saying, ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible,” Adeboye acknowledged.
