I Didn’t Come To Look For Money, I Came To Work – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated his commitment to serving Nigeria, emphasizing that his administration is focused on improving the nation’s infrastructure, food and energy security, education, and long-term economic stability.

During a meeting with the Forum of Former Presiding Officers of the National Assembly, led by former Senate President Ken Nnamani, President Tinubu stressed that his purpose in office is to work for the country’s progress, not for personal gain.

“I didn’t come to seek wealth or exploit the situation; I came to work,” Tinubu stated, according to a statement from his media aide, Bayo Onanuga. “I asked for the votes, and Nigerians gave them to me.”

The meeting, attended by 16 former presiding officers, included former Senate presidents, speakers of the House of Representatives, and their deputies. Tinubu expressed gratitude for their support and called for continued unity, irrespective of party differences, to achieve the nation’s development goals.

Reflecting on Nigeria’s legislative complexities, constitutional challenges, and nation-building efforts, Tinubu expressed optimism that progress can be achieved through collaboration and inclusiveness. He acknowledged the hardships facing the country but called for introspection, asking, “How did we get here? What did we do when we had high crude oil production? We neglected our communities and schools.”

He stressed the need for a decent learning environment for children and questioned the nation’s commitment to encouraging school enrollment. The President outlined his administration’s focus on addressing these issues by improving infrastructure, enhancing financial regulation compliance, and exploring alternative energy sources to ensure energy security.

“We’ve come a long way, and I promise we will do our best,” he added, urging the former lawmakers to continue contributing their expertise to nation-building.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Senator Ken Nnamani expressed full support for President Tinubu’s administration, highlighting the government’s efforts to tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges, including insecurity, economic downturn, and infrastructural decay. He praised Tinubu’s courage in addressing local government autonomy, a move that has earned widespread approval.

“We believe that with your experience, you can overcome the difficulties,” Nnamani said, pledging the group’s commitment to supporting the President’s efforts to restore national security, build a strong economy, and foster unity across Nigeria.

Nnamani also acknowledged the President’s trust in appointing some of their members to key national positions, recognizing their importance in contributing to the nation’s progress.
