A former Super Eagles player has denied retirement rumours and confirmed that he is still available for the Nigerian national team.
Ogenyi Onazi, who last played for the national team in 2018, has 52 Super Eagles caps and maintains that he is prepared for a comeback.
Under renowned coach Stephen Keshi, Onazi made his debut with the national team in 2012, marking his first breakthrough.
The energetic midfielder represented Nigeria in the FIFA World Cups in 2014 and 2018 and was a key player in the country's 2013 AFCON victory.

Onazi wants back in the game
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion stated in an interview with Brila that he is still dedicated to playing for his nation.

Onazi said, “I have not retired. If they call me an ex-international, I don’t know why, but anyway, it is okay.”
After a string of injuries made many think he was no longer a contender for the Super Eagles, his comments put an end to rumours about his future on the international scene.
Onazi is currently playing for Avezzano in Serie D. He last played for the national team in 2018, but he maintains that he is prepared for a recall.

With Augustine Eguavoen as the interim head coach of the Super Eagles, Onazi will be hoping he can get a call-up to the team.
Meanwhile, Eguavoen's time as Super Eagles coach has seen improvement for Nigeria in the FIFA Ranking ahead of Ghana and South Africa.
