The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) has commended Nigeria for its remarkable progress in the aviation sector, particularly for achieving a significant global compliance milestone.

This accolade was conveyed by the ITF general secretary in an official communication addressed to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, during the closing session of the 46th ITF Congress.

The ITF praised Nigeria for attaining a global compliance score of 75.5 per cent under the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Cape Town Convention.

In the message, the ITF lauded Nigeria’s efforts, emphasising the importance of this achievement for both the country’s aviation sector and its influence within the region. “We congratulate Nigeria for achieving a 75.5 per cent compliance score under the International Civil Aviation Organisation Convention. This accomplishment provides Nigeria with a strong foundation to further develop a robust regional aviation industry grounded in the principles of decent work, economic development and environmental sustainability.”

The forum also acknowledged the leadership of the Nigerian government, specifically recognising the efforts of Keyamo. “We thank the Nigerian government and Minister Festus Keyamo for his unwavering commitment to advancing this progress. His presence at the 46th ITF Congress was greatly appreciated, and we look forward to continued collaboration in promoting global aviation standards,” the ITF added.

The ITF Congress, a leading global forum for transportation workers and industry stakeholders, addresses pressing challenges facing the global transport sector. Nigeria’s impressive compliance score under the Cape Town Convention signals the country’s growing influence and commitment to upholding international aviation standards.
