IPOB: Ejimakor Refutes Release Of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

The Special Counsel for Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Barr Aloy Ejimakor, Thursday, refuted reports that his client has been released from the custody of the Department of State Services.

Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, has been detained at the custody of DSS in Abuja since 2021 when he was renditioned from Kenya to Nigeria. He is accused of terrorism.

Ejimakor stated this via his X. He wrote, “The general public is hereby advised to disregard the viral rumour that Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been released. It’s pure #FakeNews. The day #MNK (the #BigElephant & leader of millions) is freed, the earth itself will announce it and it won’t require any confirmation.”

Meanwhile, Amb Bianca Ojukwu, the wife of former Biafran warlord Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has made a case for Kanu’s release.

She spoke at the just-concluded 2024 annual convention of the American Veterans of Igbo Descent (AVID), in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, where the issue featured prominently.

Bianca, who was the special guest at the event, said Kanu’s freedom would improve the security situation in the region. She urged the governors of the region to collaborate in finding a lasting solution to insecurity in the zone.

According to her, “The incessant killings and kidnappings, the increasing rate of annexation and takeover of community farmlands by armed herdsmen and other dangerous invaders have taken their toll on agro and economic prospects as well as social activities in most Igbo communities.”

She called on the South-East governors to collaborate in tackling the spate of insecurity in the region, warning that the trend posed an existential threat to life in the Igbo homeland.
