Israel Sends 50 Trucks Of Humanitarian Aid To Gaza After U.S Threat

Three days after two top US officials signed a letter threatening to withdraw military aid to Israel if they fail to transfer more humanitarian aid to Gaza, the country has dispatched 50 lorries into the region.

The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that aid including food, water, medical supplies, and shelter equipment provided by Jordan were being transferred to the northern Gaza Strip through the Allenby Bridge Crossing and the Erez West Crossing.

According to the military, the aid was transferred after “thorough security inspections”, and that they will work “in accordance with international law to facilitate and ease the entry of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip”.

Furthermore, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, speaking at a meeting of the UN in New York City, said the country “remains committed to working with our international partners” to make sure aid reaches Gaza.

Danon added that Hamas is to blame for a two-week delay in aid reaching the area.

“There is no shortage of aid”, he says, adding that “when you look at the amount of aid that is being delivered into Gaza the problem is with the logistics to make sure it goes to the people who need it and not into the hands of Hamas.”

On Israelis recent strikes in Nabatieh Lebanon that killed six people, including the mayor of a town, Danon said the IDF only targeted Hezbollah.

“We target Hezbollah bases. We know that Hezbollah many times takes advantage of civilian facilities,” he said.
