Former Sweden head coach, Janne Andersson has revealed that he turned down the opportunity to coach the Super Eagles due to concerns over the offer made by the Nigeria Football Federation.
Andersson is the latest European coach to disclose rejecting the role, following similar decisions by German coach Bruno Labbadia and Frenchman Hervé Renard.
The NFF has been actively searching for a foreign coach after Finidi George’s abrupt departure.
Andersson was one of the names linked with the Super Eagles managerial position during the summer, and at one point, he was reportedly the leading candidate.
The 62 year-old coach explained that he declined the NFF’s offer due to issues with the terms of the contract.
“Nigeria was very persistent and wanted me to take the job. There were many appealing aspects, but the overall situation wasn’t perfect.
“It didn’t feel 100 percent right, and it has to feel that way for me to fully commit,” Andersson told Swedish newspaper Hallandsposten.
“It would take a lot for me to take on a new coaching job. I am selective and have other things going on, like mentorship and board roles,” he added.
In the meantime, the Nigerian FA has appointed a caretaker technical crew, led by Austin Eguavoen, to manage the squad.
