“It needs to be worked on” – Club Brugge boss speaks on Onyedika’s red card vs Milan

Club Brugge head coach, Nicky Hayen, has revealed he and the club hierarchy will discuss with Super Eagles midfielder, Raphael Onyedika, following his red card hiatus against AC Milan, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 23-year-old versatile midfielder wasn’t so pleased when he was subbed off in Club Brugge’s 2-1 win against Westerlo last weekend, and made his feelings clear to the manager.

A few days later, he got the wrong end of his coach again as he was given his marching orders in his side’s 1-3 loss to Samuel Chukwueze’s AC Milan at the San Siro.

Onyedika was on the wrong end of a tackle with Milan midfielder, Tijjani Reijnders, and nearly snapped the ankle of the Dutch midfielder, leaving the German referee (Felix Zwayer) no other choice but to reach for his back pocket to send the former Midtjylland man off with five minutes left to the end of the first half.

The versatile midfielder has now been issued a red card in two of his last four appearances for Club Brugge in Europe and could face a three match ban for his offence against Milan, which would be a big blow for the blue and blacks.

“We were, of course, surprised that Raphael got red. I think we can talk about bad luck – and unfortunately, the decision fell to our disadvantage. We will have a calm talk about it on Wednesday. In that area, we are a warm club that does not let players fall. We will try to find a solution, but this kind of error needs to be worked on by Raphael,” Hayen said after the game as per Brila.

Onyedika will miss Club Brugge’s next UEFA Champions League fixture against Aston Villa at the Jan Breydel Stadium.
