Jehovah JirehThe LORD Will Provide

Origin: Genesis 22:14

Story: Abraham named the place where he was willing to sacrifice his son Isaac “Jehovah Jireh,” after God provided a ram as a substitute sacrifice, signifying God's provision.

God’s Provision in Our Lives

Just as Abraham’s faith was tested, there are times in our lives when it feels like we are walking through difficult, uncertain paths. We may not always understand why certain things happen, and we may wonder where provision will come from. But Jehovah Jireh sees our needs long before we are aware of them. His provision may not always come in the way we expect, but it is always timely and perfect.

In the New Testament, we see the ultimate expression of Jehovah Jireh in the provision of Jesus Christ. The ram that God provided in place of Isaac foreshadows the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus, who was given as the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world. Paul writes in Romans:

“He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)

Just as God provided for Abraham on Mount Moriah, He provided Jesus on the cross to meet our greatest need: redemption and reconciliation with Him. Through Christ, Jehovah Jireh has provided the way for eternal life.
