JUST IN: Police re-arrest escaped convict who fled Maiduguri prison during Borno flood

The Borno State Police Command has re-arrested Kyari Kur (aka Henry), an escaped convict who fled the Medium Security Custodian Center in Maiduguri during the devastating September 2024 floods.

The natural disaster caused a prison fence to collapse, allowing Kur, who was serving time for criminal conspiracy and theft, to escape.

Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Gubio divisional headquarters swiftly apprehended the 28-year-old in Gubio town on October 10, 2024.

Kur will be handed over to the Nigeria Correctional Service for further proceedings.

Commissioner of Police Mohammed Lawal Yusufu thanked the public for their cooperation and urged them to continue reporting any suspicious activities through the Command’s hotlines.

“The Borno State Police Command remains committed to ensuring public safety and justice. We appreciate the public’s cooperation and urge them to continue providing timely information,” – CP Yusufu said.
