Kano inspects Tiga Dam amid flood scare

The Kano State Government on Monday carried out an inspection of the Tiga Dam to ensure its safety following the recent flood disaster in Borno State, which raised concerns about dam safety nationwide.

The inspection team led by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Ali Makoda, visited the dam alongside experts from their respective Ministries.

Briefing newsmen during the visit, Makoda highlighted the significance of the inspection, saying, “We came with some experts from both the Ministry of Water Resources, including Works and Housing to assess the situation.

“While the Tiga Dam is managed by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, our role today was to inspect and ensure everything is in good condition.”

Makoda referenced the recent situation at the Alo Dam, which has prompted widespread concern.

“What happened at the Alo Dam sent a very negative signal to Nigerians. That is why His Excellency directed us to be here today,” he explained.

Reassuring the public, Makoda stated that the experts had reviewed the dam’s current condition and found no cause for alarm.

He said, “We have listened to the experts, and all indications show that the dam is intact. There is nothing to worry about.”

The inspection was part of the state government’s proactive measures to prevent any potential flooding disasters, as the rainy season intensifies.

The team is expected to continue their assessment at other key dams in the state, including Bagwai and Challawa.
