A housewife named Barkisu Sulaiman has been arrested by residents of the Karaworo-Lokoja area of Kogi state for allegedly throwing her newborn baby into a drainage ditch.

Sulaiman was arrested on Tuesday, October 7, following a tip-off from a woman in the Kabawa area of Lokoja, who reportedly shared a close relationship with the suspect and alerted authorities.

The arrest took place on Tuesday following a tip-off from a woman in the Kabawa area of Lokoja, who reportedly shared a close relationship with the suspect.

“She told the elderly man that her friend, Barkisu, had previously confided in her that she was pregnant by one of her ailing husband’s servants residing in Adankolo-Lokoja,” a resident told Punch.

Sulaiman’s friend further disclosed that the alleged father of the baby, now on the run, had denied responsibility for the pregnancy and suggested that Barkisu terminate it.

However, the residents of the area upon learning of the incident, apprehended Barkisu.

Following her arrest, Sulaiman, who confessed to dumping her one-day-old infant, stated that she felt guilty for cheating on her ailing husband.

The Kogi State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Paul Igweibuke, who confirmed her arrest on Wednesday, stated that investigation is ongoing.
