RB Ola Aina has opened up about the distressing ordeal he experienced while on duty with the Super Eagles in Libya.
Aina was part of Nigeria’s squad that was reportedly held by Libyan authorities upon arrival for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
The team was detained at the airport for 16 hours, without access to basic necessities such as food, water, internet, or hotel accommodations.
The Nigerian Football Federation was eventually forced to pull the team out of the match due to the severe conditions they faced.
“You need mental toughness to play African football, or else it will push you into depression,” Aina remarked.

In another video, the defender added: “Libya showed us ‘pepper,'” a Nigerian slang expression meaning they endured a hellish experience.
The Super Eagles have since returned home, and players are set to rejoin their respective clubs.
