The M. A. and Lila Self Leadership Academy Scholarship is a prestigious full-tuition scholarship for high-achieving first-year students at Illinois Tech who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential. Named in honor of Al and Lila Self, the scholarship supports up to four new recipients each year in developing their leadership skills through the Leadership Academy’s exclusive opportunities.

Open to all undergraduate fields of study.

Full-tuition scholarship for undergraduate study.
Who can Apply?
Full-time first-year undergraduate applicants to Illinois Tech who apply via Early Decision I or Early Action I and meet the leadership and academic requirements.
How are Applicants Selected?
Applicants are selected based on demonstrated leadership potential and academic excellence. Finalists will participate in a Leadership Experience for Assessment and Development (LEAD) session and an in-person interview at the Scholarship Symposium.

How Many Awards? Up to four scholarships are awarded each year.
What is the Benefit of the Award?
Recipients receive a full-tuition scholarship for up to four years (five years for architecture students), along with exclusive access to leadership development programs, networking events, and a leadership studies certificate upon successful completion.
How Long Will the Award Last?
The scholarship lasts up to four years of undergraduate study, with an additional year for architecture students.
How to Apply for the MA and Lila Self Leadership Academy Scholarship:
- Apply to Illinois Tech via Early Decision I (binding) or Early Action I (non-binding) by November 15.
- Complete the Common Application for regular admission.
- Submit the Leadership Academy Scholarship Application (link provided to eligible applicants in early November).
- Participate in the interview process if selected as a finalist.
