Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League matches against Greece and Finland due to injury.

Also out of the squad are Ezri Konsa and Morgan Gibbs-White also as a result of injuries.
According to an England statement, there are “no further additions planned”, with interim boss Lee Carsley set to lead a 22-man squad in the October fixtures.

The Three Lions face Greece at Wembley Stadium on October 10, before a trip to Finland three days later.

The statement added that Mainoo, Konsa and Gibbs-White suffered their injuries in the weekend’s Premier League action.

Aston Villa defender Konsa was forced off the pitch in the opening 12 minutes of their 0-0 draw at home to Manchester United on Sunday, while Mainoo was taken off five minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Gibbs-White, who was in line to make just his second appearance for The Three Lions after making his debut against Republic of Ireland in September, was taken off in Nottingham Forest’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Mainoo emerged as a bright option in England’s midfield during their run to the Euro 2024 final – appearing in each of the knockout matches for Gareth Southgate’s side.

Konsa has not seen as many minutes in an England shirt as Mainoo, but helped to keep a clean sheet in the 2-0 win over Finland last time out, while also figuring for the suspended Marc Guehi in his side’s penalty shoot-out victory over Switzerland in their Euro 2024 quarter-final.

The midfield shortage left by Mainoo and Gibbs-White could see Angel Gomes stake a claim in the England engine room.
