Manchester United Sack Erik ten Hag as Manager

Mr Erik ten Hag has been removed as the manager of Manchester United Football Club of England, a statement from the sporting outfit has confirmed.

The Dutch tactician was axed by the club after he led his team to a controversial 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United, in a statement on Monday afternoon, expressed gratitude to the former Ajax coach for his stay with them, particularly winning two domestic trophies while in charge of the team.

“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us,” a part of the statement said, wishing “him well for the future.”

Mr ten Hag was appointed in April 2022 with a mission to bring the club back to winning ways. During his time at the club, he won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

However, after nine games in the 2024/2025 English Premier League season, Manchester United has only managed to grab 11 points from the possible 33 points.

Meanwhile, the club has appointed Mr ten Hag’s assistant, Mr Ruud van Nistelrooy, a former player of Manchester United, as his replacement.

The statement said the former prolific striker “will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
