Maria Sharapova and Bryan Brothers Inducted into Tennis Hall of Fame

Maria Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam singles champion, and American twins Bob and Mike Bryan have been selected for induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025. The ceremony will take place on August 23, 2025 in Newport, Rhode Island, to honour these legends for their contributions to the sport.

At 37, Sharapova has cemented her legacy as a trailblazer in women’s tennis. In 2005, she became the first Russian woman to reach the world No. 1 ranking. Throughout her career, she achieved the rare feat of winning all four Grand Slam titles, joining a select group of only ten women to complete a career Grand Slam. She also won a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics.

Sharing her joy on social media, Sharapova wrote, “Incredibly grateful to receive this honour… This recognition is a beautiful reminder of the deep appreciation I have for my fans. Each one of you made me reach for the stars.”

Sharapova’s career had its challenges, including a 15-month suspension in 2016 after testing positive for meldonium. However, she still earned nearly $40 million in prize money, becoming one of the most successful and recognisable athletes in the world before retiring in 2020.

Meanwhile, Bob and Mike Bryan are widely regarded as the greatest doubles team in tennis history. The Californian twins won 16 Grand Slam men’s doubles titles and held the world No. 1 ranking for 438 weeks. They claimed 119 titles together, including 39 ATP Masters 1000 titles and an Olympic gold medal in 2012.

Kim Clijsters, Hall of Fame President and former world No. 1, praised the 2025 inductees, saying, “Beyond their historic accomplishments on the court, the Class of 2025 has had a profound impact on the game of tennis, inspiring multiple generations of fans worldwide.”
