Same old Mourinho as the Portuguese gaffer gets sent off against Manchester United

Jose Moutinho’s reunion with Manchester United was as dramatic as expected, with the Portuguese manager getting sent off as his Fenerbahce side played out a 1-1 draw against the Red Devils.

Manchester United took the lead through Christian Eriksen in the first half before Youssef En-Nesyri equalised for Fenerbahce in the second half.

How it happened

The home side started the game on the front foot, and had chances to open the scoring, but it was the Red Devils who took the lead against the run of play with their first shot of the game through Christian Eriksen.

Fenerbahce fought for an equaliser in the first half, but were denied by some exceptional goalkeeping from Andre Onana, who ensured Manchester United entered the half-time break with a 1-0 lead.

However, there was little that Onana could do early in the second half as Moroccan striker Youssef En-Nesyri equalised for Fenerbahce with a powerful header to set up a dramatic second period.

Fenerbahce thought they had the chance to take the lead mid-way through the second half after Bright Osayi-Samuel appeared to be fouled in the box by Manuel Ugarte, but the referee waved away appeals from the home side and their fans.

The ensuing argument from the incident involving the Nigerian full-back saw Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho sent off for protesting the referee’s decision.

Despite late chances for both sides, the game remained even at 1-1 with the clubs settling for a draw in the circumstances.

Another draw leaves Manchester United on three points from three games, putting them in danger of missing automatic qualification to the Round of 16.
